OTHERSIDE

Here are some photos Liam and I took whilst exploring the North Shore. We ventured across the Auckland Harbour Bridge to catch a glimpse of the Auckland city skyline from North Head. North Head was mainly used by the military as a coastal defence installation, which, since becoming a public reserve, has left a network of accessible old bunkers and tunnels. It's been a few years since I was last at North Head and they have really improved the public access through the tunnels. There used to be a lot more blocked off but now they all connect and lead from one side of the mountain to the other. I would definitely recommend bringing a torch, because it can be a bit scary.

Since we were in the area and I was feeling nostalgic, I thought I would then take Liam on one of my favourite childhood walks. It starts in Takapuna and takes you along the coast to Milford (or vice versa depending on preference for starting point). The walk only lasts an hour but all the way along you capture stunning shots of the harbour and Rangitoto. We were lucky enough to see a few sailboats and paddleboarders taking advantage of the beautiful weather. Be careful though as the ground is often uneven, and the walk can involve climbing over rocks, and walking down narrow paths. I just find this adds to the excitement and sense of adventure.
