A must-do in San Francisco is definitely cross the Golden Gate Bridge. My mum and I decided we would cycle it across. Unfortunately it was very busy, so learning to dodge people became quite a skill. The weather outside was lovely, but as we neared the bridge it got colder and colder. The 'clouds' you see in many of the pictures is actually fog, which managed to obscure our view until about 3/4's of the way across when we could actually see a nearby marina (picture 3). The idea was to then cycle and ferry from the nearest town, Sausalito, which was lovely but very expensive. The ferry's were completely booked out, so we had to cycle to the next town, Tiburon. It was a long and tiring trek, the heat was exhausting; we had only had a break at Sausalito to have a quick bite to eat. We worked out it was a 30km ride! Our trip started at about 1pm and we didn't get back to San Francisco till 7.30pm. I recommend if you do it, go early in the morning. The bridge may be more foggy then but spending the whole day in Sausalito and Tiburon would truly be worthwhile. Your bottom will also thank you.
